Treating Animals Organically with Apple Cider Vinegar

Stock drenching is an effective remedy for treating a number of problems associated with the farm animals. The following are some ways in which ACV can be used for treating animals.

The following is by no means an exhaustive list and we would keep adding to it. Most of the information is taken from The Complete Cider Vinegar Book.

Cattle

Stock Bulls

Stock bulls given four ounces of ACV on a daily basis were able to maintain high fertility sperm even during slack periods. It is also a stimulant for bulls which appear generally uninterested. Mrs. EMC, in Farming express, states that she gives her cows half a pint of apple cider vinegar during service season. As a result most of hers cows and heifers were in calf during last winter. While there couldn’t be any direct relation established between apple cider vinegar and fertility, it could be assumed that it potency could be attributed to the minerals it contained.

In other words Apple Cider Vinegar helps improve the fertility of farm animals and ensure that there is no hitch during breeding season.

Treatment of arthritis and rheumatism

There are many farmers who can vouch for the effectiveness of ACV for treatment of rheumatism and arthritis in their stock. It helped improve the vitality of animals who were too far gone and weren’t even able to stand properly. Two ounces of ACV administered daily helped cows give better milk yield and increased their livelihood as well.

Treatment of dysentery

According to MR. L.E.V of Ellesmore, states that one of his cows started experiencing a dysentery type scour for no reason. The vet had given it a number of drenches and administered number of medications but to no avail. The cow only seemed to be getting worse. However, he tried using four ounces of ACV and a large tablespoon of honey in half a pint of water. The cow started to improve within three days.

Pigs

Farrowing fever

Susceptible sows can be administered two ounces of ACV a day for two to three weeks prior to farrowing and then two weeks after farrowing. The piglets tend to be more active and the sows remain healthy and active. For sows suffering from fever, a daily two ounce dose given for ten days can do the trick.

Farmer G Chatham of Kingsbridge realized that he had to pay huge amount of bil to the vet for the treatment of farrowing fever. He continued losing his stock alarmingly. However he switched to the above mentioned form of treatment using ACV. He noticed a marked improvement in the condition of his stock. Pus he also realized that there were no issue of udder problems in his sows. His piglet became livelier and his sows more active.

Scouring

In calves bacterial and nutritional scouring is usually treated with the help of adding ACV to the drinking water.

Farmer K.J.R of Newport, owned a pig who was scouring badly enough to be almost on the verge of death. With only ten days of ACV treatment it was back to normal.

Farmer D.F.W of Chard had twenty two sows in breeding. They were around three years old. In the past he needed the services of a vet two or three times during farrowing. However, with the use of ACV his vet bills have reduced to almost two thirds.

Giving the sows a dose of one pint of stout or one and a half pints of ACV made them completely docile.

Goats

Goats too can be administered ACV but half of the dose given to cattle. According to Mr. J.L.R of Colchester, ACV helps keep acetoanemia at bay.

Poultry

A teaspoonful of ACV added to a quart of drinking water for turkeys and chicken helped improve their rate of growth.

Mr. John Woods of Preston carried out a controlled trail on birds in battery cages which suffered from poor shell texture and had respiratory infection. He added two and a half gallons of ACV per ton of feed. He kept the trail a secret because he didn’t expect any benefit to come out of it. However he was surprised to see the amazing results. After a month he noticed a marked improvement in the shell texture. He noticed that the porous eggs had reduced by almost eighty percent.

Horses and ponies

Suggested doses are three ounces for ponies and four ounces for horses up to fifteen hands and five ounce for horses above fifteen hands. Since horses can be pretty choosy its best to add ACV to their favorite food. Drenching is not recommended, until and unless carried out by a surgeon.

It helps treat loss of appetite in horses. Adding ACV to the feed can stimulate the appetite.

Horses normally eat dung while they feed. However, this can be treated with the help of ACV as well.

It also helped improve the suppleness and gloss of the horses’ coats.

Horses might accidentally eat poison. However, Apple cider vinegar can help combat that as well. Sometimes problems can also be caused due to the medications given for treating certain conditions. In such cases a daily dose of ACV can help keep things normalized and reduce instances of poisoning.

Treatment for equine influenza

According to Lord C from Dorset, adding ACV to the daily diet of his horses has helped kept them free from bouts of fever and influenza, despite the fact that his horses mingled freely with sufferers of equine flu. It helped raise their immunity.

ACV works well for race horses

The famous racehorse Noble Dancer who won the 1978 title along with US$ 400000 was an active user of ACV for robust health. There has been an increase in the number of trainers who have started giving their horses, regular doses of ACV. They are however not too keen on sharing their names because they want to keep it a closely guarded secret known only to a select few.

However, it’s a known fact that Nobel Dancer took Martlet Cider Vinegar whereas the famous trainer David Morely used Cider Vinegar made from Aspail grown apples.

Today many trainers belonging to a number of regiments can vouch for the effectiveness and value of cider vinegar.

Sheep

It can help treat twin lamb disease. It’s an affliction which ewes in their fourth or fifth month of pregnancy suffer from. This is usually due to the fact that they are carrying two or three babies at the same time. This illness is often fatal and there is nothing much which can be done about it. However, using two ounces of Cider vinegar could help a great deal. A drench of a quarter pint of cider vinegar and equal amounts of warm water given for two weeks can be helpful.
